Gary Bettman Gives Some Terrible News Regarding the NHL Salary Cap
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman gave an indication of how the salary cap would increase for the 2023-24 season.
While rumours earlier in the season were that the cap could increase by as much as $4-million, it will only actually increase by $1-million.
Gary Bettman says #NHL is now projecting a $70m remaining escrow balance at the end of the season, which would result in the salary cap rising just $1 million this summer to $83.5 million.
Not willing to say now whether a negotiation with #NHLPA for larger increase is possible.
This is incredibly disappointing and it causes significant stress for general managers who can't afford to keep their teams together.
Hopefully increases are on the horizon for 2024-25, as these insignificant increases are unsustainable.
