On Monday, Bettman met with the media to discuss the largest issue in hockey. He agreed to respond to former Blackhawks player Kyle Beach's sexual assault complaint. Bettman began by apologising to Beach.

"What happened was inappropriate, it was wrong on every level and it was not handled correctly by the Blackhawks organization," said Bettman.

Bettman said the NHL found out immediately after the complaint was filed, and the team assured him it wouldn't lead anywhere. He stated that the league found out in May.

Why was Joel Quenneville, the Blackhawks' coach in 2010, permitted to coach the Florida Panthers on Wednesday when he had prior knowledge of the incident?

"I wanted to make sure that no one, including Coach Quenneville, could say that I had prejudged him," said Bettman, adding that he realizes some people may disagree with that choice.

Bettman explained why Winnipeg Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff, who was Chicago's assistant GM at the time, escaped penalty.

"Kevin was such a minor player in all of this. When they were doing the investigation, the only person who placed Kevin in the room for the meeting was Kevin," said Bettman.

Glad this is all over!
