Very interesting chart from Byron Bader via Twitter, regarding forwards who have made a significant impact on their team since the 2000 draft and who were drafted outside of the first round.
The most recent star is Alex DeBrincat in 2016. Drafted in the second round, the Ottawa Senators' new forward is averaging 0.83 points per game so far in his career.
In total, 18 players out of 1,800 drafted (in rounds 2 and up) have become NHL stars and have played more than 200 games in the Bettman circuit, with more than 0.7 points per game.
Special mention goes to former Montreal Canadiens' Mike Cammalleri, who was drafted in the second round in 2001 and averaged 0.71 points per game throughout his career.
