Ivan Provorov Refuses to Take Warmup in a Blatant Act of Homophobia
Do the Philadelphia Flyers have the least likeable defensive pairing of any team in the league?
This is a question people were already posing themselves when the Flyers signed troubled blueliner Tony DeAngelo to a 2-year, $10-million deal, but it has been confirmed tonight.
Their top d-man, Ivan Provorov, refused to take warmups tonight due to his protest of the Flyers' pride jersey night.
This very blatant homophobia has no place in the sport, and is a glaring issue on an already crumbling Flyers organization.
NHL Insider Frank Seravalli revealed this soon after the incident:
There is word that #Flyers' Ivan Provorov did not participate in warmups tonight because he declined to wear the team-issued Pride Night jersey, celebrating the LGTBQ+ community.
The Flyers offered the following comment.
Provorov is expected to be available to media postgame.
The Flyers equally put out a statement:
"The Philadelphia Flyers organization is committed to inclusivity and is proud to support the LGBTQ+ community. Many of our players are active in their support of local LGBTQ+ organizations, and we were proud to host our annual Pride Night again this year. The Flyers will continue to be strong advocates for inclusivity and the LGBTQ+ community."
This is a true embarrassment for the Flyers, who can't seem to catch a break as of late.
