A rare occurrence in the NHL, on Saturday, Jesperi Kotkaniemi signed a 1-year, $6.1M offer sheet with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The move appears to be retaliatory after the Hurricanes matched a 5-year, $42.27M offer sheet from the Habs to then RFA forward Sebastian Aho.
The assumption seems to be that the Canadiens will not match Carolina's offer and will instead receive the Canes' first and third round picks in 2022 as compensation.
Maybe Kotkaniemi knows something we don't. On Sunday, the 21-year-old deleted his social media bio.
Is it possible Kotkaniemi already knows the Habs will take the compensation? Or is it owing to the uncertainty of his status as a Hurricane or a Canadien next season?
