According to Elliotte Friedman of TJMS, the Isles and GM Lou Lamoriello may be seeking for a young defenseman with promise who is under contract for multiple seasons.
It's hard to obtain and expensive, but I was thinking about it the other day, and I wonder if that's what he's looking at," Friedman remarked.
One possibility is Avs defenseman Sam Girard, who is rumoured to be on the trade block following a disappointing postseason. Girard has a $5M AAV through 2026-27.
Another fascinating option for Lamoriello (and much less expensive) is Leafs defenseman Travis Dermott. Dermott is signed through 2022-23 at $1.5M per season and can play either side.
