We then learned that no one from the Golden Knights thought to tell Fleury about the trade and, according to The Athletic's Jesse Granger, Fleury found out about it on Twitter at the same time as the fans.
According to his agent Allan Walsh and TSN reporter and insider Bob McKenzie, the veteran Quebec goaltender was shocked by the deal to the point where he was questioning his career.
The Quebec goalie then issued a statement:
"I want to thank all the incredible fans in Vegas as well as my teammates for the incredible 4 seasons together. You have welcomed me and my family from the very beginning and thanks to you, playing games in the Vegas fortress has been one of the greatest joys of my life. We will miss playing games in Vegas, but I am grateful for my journey in your city."
Fleury, who just won the Vezina Trophy and has 1 year left on his contract at an average salary of $7 million did not comment on whether he was reporting to his new Chicago Blackhawks team or announcing his retirement for family reasons, he really did not want to leave Vegas as seen above.

He wanted to finish his career there.
But, there could be another alternative; the Pittsburgh Penguins!
According to several observers, including the journalist who covers the Pittsburgh Penguins Josh Yohe, there is a real chance that Marc-Andre Fleury will come back to play for the Penguins:
- He doesn't want to be in Chicago, he says
- He still loves Pittsburgh
- He is clearly better than Tristan Jarry (again according to Yohe)
- The Blackhawks have no good reason to keep him
- This is probably the only place he would be willing to move his family, except Vegas
Imagine how perfect this would be, especially since the Penguins regret letting him go since his first season in Vegas, and on top of that, he is one of the most popular players in Penguins history both in the locker room and with the fans.
The 36-year-old Marc-Andre Fleury compiled a 26-10-0 record with a 1.98 goals-against average and .928 save percentage in 36 games last season.
