The Tampa Bay Lightning's Stanley Cup celebration has been anything but calm and quiet, and now the team has added to the fire. Well, locker room favorite Pat Maroon has, as he has admitted to being the culprit who dented the Stanley Cup.

Maroon won his third consecutive cup last week and blamed weather for the incident which happened during the Lightning's championship celebration Monday.

"It was obviously raining and it was wet," he told St. Louis-based radio station 101 ESPN on Tuesday. "I went to lift it and I went ... backwards with it. I slipped, (my brother) Phil held me up, and the Cup went back on its end."

Although this is a bad look for the team, everyone makes mistakes and Maroon defended his team's handling of the most prized trophy in all of sports.

"People were saying we disrespected the Cup," he said. "(That's) such B.S., because if they had half a brain, you know it's wet outside. You think we'd be throwing the Cup around? No, we didn't disrespect it. It was a complete accident, and we both got hurt. My back has been hurt all day (Tuesday). But yeah, that's what happened. Nothing crazy."

The Stanley Cup is currently in Montreal being repaired before it will be shipped back to Tampa where the Lightning can continue their celebrations.
