Usually, when you give a team a big contract, you have to pay. However, in the next situation, it could be very profitable for the team that sends its big contract elsewhere.

With the cancelled deal, sending Evgeni Dadonov to Anaheim, will give the Golden Knights a lot of trouble. Why? Because Alec Martinez and Mark Stone will return to the game soon and the team will deflate the salary cap.

Insider Nick Kypreos made an interesting suggestion in the final minutes.

Given that Shea Weber is on the long-term injured list until the end of his contract, it would be interesting as we speak if Vegas could acquire him.

Here is the proposal from Kypreos:

To Montreal: Evgenii Dadonov + First or second round pick

In Vegas: Shea Weber contract

Why would this cost Vegas so much? Because the team that gets Dadonov relieves the Golden Knights of $5M. At the very least, the money freed up will ensure that the team could reactivate Martinez and Stone from their long-term injury list.

For the Habs, with the rules in place, Dadonov would not be able to play until next year. Could the NHL offer him a waiver? It's a possibility.
