Here are the comments of the Canes Owner Tim Dundon

"We have to consider all sorts of things at any given time and you never know which of those will come to pass," Dundon told Sportsnet. The way the summer went for us wasn't ideal and we got to a point where we had a lot of space under the salary cap."

"The idea of not using the money we have is quite frustrating, you don't want to waste that asset," he continued. That's why we looked at our options and came to this decision."

So, the idea that this is indeed a revenge because of the hostile bid for Sebastian Aho in the summer of 2019 would be a mere coincidence.

"The idea that we have done this as revenge is ridiculous. We want to win and we made a change that will help us do that. His [Kotkaniemi's] stock is down a little bit given his end of the season, but our recruiting staff strongly believes this player has a good future ahead of him."

In all of this, Dundon maintains that all of the arrows aimed at the Montreal organization on social networks lately were simply a way to boost the popularity of his team.

"We are in the entertainment business and we wouldn't have a league if the fans didn't have fun. Our organisational philosophy on this is that we should be able to get as much fun and attention as possible out of the situation».
