Toronto Maple Leafs place forward on waivers; They didn't expect this

The Maple Leafs have placed Nick Ritchie on waivers.
They didn't expect this when they signed him to a two-year, $5 million contract this summer. Toronto's choice is reasonable, given things haven't worked out with Ritchie. He has a goal, eight points, and a minus-5 rating in 30 games. So, he was just healthy scratched by the squad, which was likely expected.
Ritchie has been unimpressive this season. Last season, he got 15 goals and 26 points in 56 games with the Bruins. But he hasn't been able to match that output this season. Other Leafs forwards have outperformed him.
It will be fascinating to see whether any clubs risk Ritchie. That's unlikely given his $2.5 million cap cost through the end of the season.
What a joke of a season for Nick.
