The Montreal Canadiens lost Game 1 of the Stanley Cup final to the Tampa Bay Lightning, but forward Brendan Gallagher was not injured.
Fans were terrified of what had happened to the veteran in the third period of the first game, when he was left without a helmet after the whistle. Mikhail Sergachev, a Lightning defenceman, smashed him into the ice, his head striking the ice directly.
Gallagher regained control of his abilities and fled the rink to be examined by a trainer, blood streaming down his face. He did not return until the game was over, which the Bolts won 5-1.
This could've been a lot worse, and luckily Gallagher escaped without serious injury. Interim head coach Luke Richardson confirmed that his forward would be in the lineup for Game 2 despite looking awfully bad.
«He doesn't look great. His face is a bit of a roadmap right now»
