The Columbus Blue Jackets have hired Todd McLellan as their new head coach.

Earlier reports confirmed traction between the renowned coach and the Blue Jackets, but now, his hiring has reportedly been made official.

Here's what we reported earlier today:

"Sounds like Todd McLellan is the new head coach of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Awaiting official confirmation."

In breaking news, it's been announced by another source that the organization is hiring McLellan to replace Pascal Vincent:

"The #Jackets are hiring Todd McLellan as their next head coach.

McLellan, 56, has been a head coach in the NHL from 2008-2024, boasting a total record of 598-412-134 (.581) in that span with the San Jose Sharks, Edmonton Oilers, and Los Angeles Kings"

McLellan has been involved in multiple rumors since the regular season started.

He was linked to a few teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, before they ended up hiring Craig Berube to replace Sheldon Keefe.

In Columbus, McLellan will try to get the best out of the young players like Adam Fantilli, Kent Johnson or David Jiricek. His vast NHL experience will be useful as the Blue Jackets continue their rebuilding process.

At the upcoming NHL draft, Columbus is set to speak at the 4th overall rank, which should be McLellan's first appearance as a member of the Blue Jackets' organization.

More to come.
