Former NHL enforcer Sean Avery reveals his shocking first hockey purchase
NHL enforcer Sean Avery shared the item he purchased with his first pay cheque in the league, and the item is a bit of a surprise.
As a part of a series chronicling NHLers first purchased item, Instagram user 'HockeyForeverHQ' asked Avery for the first item he ever bought from money earned in the National Hockey League. Avery answered with just two words.
From many NHLers, such a crazy first purchase would be a bit of a shock, but for one of the league's most popular and controversial players in it's history, it's not a crazy expectation.
Sean Avery was one of the NHL's most popular players in his playing career, not for being an otherworldly player, but for his sheer physicality and outspokenness that sometimes bordered on the controversial.
Avery brought entertainment on and off the ice without having to be a top offensive weapon, as well as extended popularity as an actor and model during his NHL playing days.
One of the top enforcers in the game's history, Sean Avery accumulated 1,533 penalty minutes in just 580 NHL games, 4th all time in PIM in the 2000's with 1,338. Unlike some enforcers, Avery did have some offensive ability, with 90 goals, 157 assists & 247 points in 10 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers & Dallas Stars.
