Junior Hockey club mourns loss of former alternate captain Troy Wylie
31-year-old Greater Napanee resident Troy Wylie passed away today after he was involved in a motorcycle accident.
Wylie was a outstanding citizen who, like most Canadians, loved the game of hockey. He played junior hockey as a kid, playing for his local PJCHL club, the Napanee Raiders.
More recently, he had gotten back into hockey, playing recreational senior league hockey with the Deseronto Bulldogs Hockey Club. Wylie got into 10 games with the team last season and had plans of continuing to play for them going into the 2024-25 campaign.
The Napanee Raiders released a public statement upon learning of Wylie's passing.
"Our Organization is devastated this morning by the news of the tragic passing of Troy Wylie at the age of 31. Troy played for the Raiders from 2011-12 to 2014-15 and served as an alternate captain many of those years. The Kingston native could capably play forward - where he was seldom lost a battle along the boards - and defense, where he could be counted on for making simple, smart zone exits.
He was incredibly dedicated through goods times and bad. He was remembered by those who played with him and coached him as a great teammate, a hard worker, and a kind, respectful person away from the rink who loved his family and friends. We extend our condolences to Troy's fiance Chelsea, his parents Pete and Tammy, their family, and the many whose lives were better for having known him."
The Bulldogs also made a post in his honor, commemorating the life of their former teammate.
Wylie will be dearly missed by those close to him. His death serves as a reminder to practice safe driving tactics as much as possible on the roads, and you should always keep a close eye out for those on bicycles and motorcycles. HockeyPatrol would like to extend our deepest condolences to Troy's family and friends in this difficult time.
