The young 28-year-old Lazar Dukic was seen competing in the 800-meter swim event at the CrossFit Games in Forth Worth's Marine Creek Lake this morning around 8 a.m., when he suddenly vanished in the water and did not resurface.
First Responders ended up pulling a body out of the lake about two hours after Dukic disappeared. The CrossFit Games then issued a statement that confirmed one of their athletes had tragically died.
The CrossFit Games were suspended for the rest of the day as investigators took over the scene.
Dukic was from Serbia who had competed many times in these types of Games and was very athletic. This is no doubt a very strange situation that people will really want answers to.
Dukic was ranked 88th in the world in CrossFit and the third best in his country of Serbia. He posted late last night on Instagram about his upcoming competition today, and urged fans to make sure that they tune in. It's eerie to think that was his last ever post.
Despite the fact that seven different firefighter units were dispatched to the scene to try and rescue Dukic, no one was able to and he ultimately lost his life. There were also 10,000 people from around the world who made their way into Texas to watch these games, so they were no doubt in a state of shock as well.
Thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to all of Dukic's family and friends during this tragic time.
