New Jersey Devils coach Sheldon Keefe was ejected after star Jack Hughes suffered an injury against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Sunday's game saw some fireworks between the Devils and Golden Knights as Sheldon Keefe was ejected from the game after Jack Hughes suffered an injury after crashing into the boards.

It's a scary looking scene for Hughes who skated off in clear agony, and Keefe was none too impressed with the lack of punishment for Vegas' Jack Eichel.

Hughes was clutching his wrist or arm which could indicate something might be broken or at the very least sprained. It would be a massive blow to their playoff hopes if the team were to lose Hughes for any period of time.

In 61 games this season, Hughes has 27 goals and 43 assists while averaging 20:53 TOI. He was New Jersey's 1st overall pick in 2019.

Keefe is no stranger to being ejected, as he was known to have a bit of a temper behind the bench when he was coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

It's great to see a coach have some passion especially when it's in regards to their star players. It's a shame Keefe didn't have the same fire in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season, but hindsight is 20/20.

Hughes, the middle child of the Hughes trio with younger brother Luke and Older brother Quinn (who have all dealt with injuries) has been one of the NHL's best young stars the past few seasons.

In 367 games, the Orlando, Florida native has 141 goals and 210 assists to go along with 60 PIM. One of the league's most disciplined and sportsmanlike players, Hughes had a 2021-22 season where he accumulated zero penalties; a massive accomplishment in today's modern game.

There's no word on the severity of the injury however all signs point to not good whatsoever, and Keefe being ejected is guaranteed to be the last thing on his mind right now.
