The Strategy For The Oilers To Win Has Been Revealed
The NHL is full of different theories on what it takes to win a championship. One organization that is looking to get to the top of the mountain for the first time in a long time is the Edmonton Oilers. They are reportedly trying a new offseason strategy to improve their chances of competing.
Oilers Back Together
The Edmonton Oilers are reportedly coming back together for optional team skates. This is the earliest that they have come back together to prepare for the season with this core. Now one former NHLer has his opinion on this strategy.
The crew of Jason Strudwick and Ryan Rishaug were joined by former NHLer and Pittsburgh Penguin Rob Brown to discuss the Oilers starting their offseason activities.
Do you think that getting together and getting organized can give them a good chance at producing better results in the first five, seven games? You're not just coming out of your play shinney when you're doing it this early. There's a plan, there's intention here to work on. So what?
You know, I think there'll be some conditioning mixed in there just, again to show that commitment, make the team feel settled, get the new guys involved so when they get to training camp, they are 100% locked and loaded and ready to go. My first years in Pittsburgh, our leader was Mario Lemieux, one of the greatest that ever played.
Brown comments on the idea that these first few skates are conditioning mixed in with building chemistry. Getting everyone involved in the group and making sure that every player understands the expectations.
Oilers Look To Push Through To A Stanley Cup
The Edmonton Oilers have been consistent playoff qualifiers in recent years. They have however struggled to continue that success in the playoffs. With two of the best players in the world Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl the Oilers really should be having more success.
This offseason was relatively quiet for the Oilers. Most of their core remains the same but will be re-focused hopefully with the extended offseason together. The biggest addition back to the team will be a potentially healthy Evander Kane. Kane of course suffered a nasty wrist injury last season that affected him even after he came back for the Oilers playoff run. He and the rest of the Oilers core will have to work together to get the best out of each other in pursuit of a Stanley Cup.
