The Edmonton Oilers fell to the Florida Panthers tonight in a winner-takes-all all Game 7.
Despite the crushing loss, Connor McDavid was given the Conn Smythe Trophy after breaking the all-time assist record in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. After Gary Bettman announced Connor McDavid as the winner many expected him to emerge and accept the award but he did not.
With the crushing loss of a Stanley Cup Finals and the unexpected moment, it makes sense that Connor McDavid did not come out to accept the award. He is the first forward to win the award since Reggie Leach with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Despite the circumstances, fans are still livid with Connor McDavid for not being present to accept the award. Many fans also believe that Sergei Bobrovsky was more deserving of the Conn Smythe Trophy win. Now the Florida Panthers will go on and celebrate through the night as they are crowned Stanley Cup Champions.
