Beauvillier had fallen out of favor in Vancouver under Rick Tocchet making him expendable. The Canucks get a 5th-round pick and can now call up a deserving player from Chicago.
The Blackhawks likely view Beauvillier as a replacement for Corey Perry who will be having his contract terminated. All around a low-risk potential high-reward trade for the Hawks.
