Jack Campbell has been part of the goaltender tandem in Edmonton since leaving the Leafs at the end of the 2022 season. In his time with the Oilers, he has struggled. He has played 36 games and has a 3.41 goals-against-average and a 0.888 save percentage. These numbers are shockingly bad and have led many to wonder if Campbell's time in Edmonton could be coming to an end.
The Oilers are currently still in an uncertain spot when it comes to goaltending. Stuart Skinner had a good rookie season but is still a young goaltender with a lot of risk. Behind him is Campbell who struggled and might not be able to be relied on.
Because of this many have wondered if the Oilers could be in on a trade for a goaltender. Players like John Gibson and Connor Hellebuyck would give the Oilers the most stability and upside. The only problem is both of these players would not fit in the Oilers' salary cap. Jack Campbell would have to be moved for the Oilers to go out and get an elite netminder.
The first few weeks of the NHL season will be interesting to watch how both Stuart Skinner and Jack Campbell play. If one or both struggle Campbell could be on his way out for more stability and star power to support Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl.
