But this season may spell the end of the team as one of the most feared in the NHL and toughest to play against, even with Mike Sullivan and Sid the Kid.
Ron Hextall came into the GM position in 2021 and has made some questionable trades, with his best so far being Rickard Rakell. However many others such as Jeff Petry and Jason Zucker have either been burdened by injury or underperformance or both and haven't helped the Penguins along the way.
With the current situation the Penguins are in, they don't look like much of a buyer, with little cap space.
That being said they do have some trade pieces in Jason Zucker, Teddy Blueger, Danton Heinen, and Brian Dumoulin.
With Tannet Jeannot yielding a high yield return, you could say that he set the market for bottom-six forwards and someone would pay a pretty price for Zucker.
Hextall will have to act quickly, as he's missed out on key pieces already and he needs to make the Penguins a younger, faster team. He equally needs to solidify the defence.
He has a lot of work to do.
