Chris Kreider has been traded from the New York Rangers to the Anaheim Ducks, leaving the Maple Leafs unable to try and acquire him this offseason.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are going to be out of luck if they were considering trading for New York's Chris Kreider, as the veteran forward and long-time New York Ranger was traded to the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday, as Larry Brooks of the New York Post first reported that Kreider waived his no-trade clause, with Elliotte Friedman later confirming the deal as completed.
The New York Rangers confirmed the move as official shortly after, acquiring Terrance and a 2025 fourth for Kreider and a 2025 third.
In a statement, Rangers GM and team President Chris Drury thanked Kreider for his time in New York, crediting him as an integral part of the team in his career.
"We want to thank Chris Kreider for all of his contributions to the Rangers organization over his stellar career.

Chris has been an integral part of some of the most iconic moments in Rangers history, including setting multiple franchise records and helping the team advance to the 2014 Stanley Cup Final.

His leadership on the ice and tireless efforts in the community - which he was recognized for as the inaugural recipient of the Rod Gilbert "Mr. Ranger" Award - only add to his distinguished Rangers legacy.

Chris will always be a Ranger and we wish him and his family all the best. - Chris Drury

It was a stunning bit of news that came out of nowhere on Tuesday night, with The Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli initially reporting the news, but did mention the trade was in the framework part of negotiations and the deal was not yet official.
The deal was supposedly built around Anaheim prospect Carey Terrance, a New York native and Anaheim's 2nd round pick in 2023 and that seems to have come to fruition.
The Ducks will take on Kreider's $6.5M contract in full over the next two seasons, and has interest in playing for new Ducks head coach Joel Quenneville; plus it would reunite him with Ryan Strome and Jacob Trouba.
NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun added some more information prior to the deal, explaining that Kreider has to waive his no-movement clause first, as the Ducks are on his no-fly zone; but is willing to waive it as both teams work towards the final touches on the trade:
Further to @frank_seravalli here who was first on this potential trade, Kreider needs to waive as Anaheim is on list of No teams. Discussions are continuing today in this potential deal. - Pierre LeBrun
Kreider, 34, had a rough year in 2024-25 as he dealt with several injuries and ailments that kept him from his full potential, but when healthy he's one of the best pure scorers on the planet.
Kreider has 582 points in 883 games (326G, 256A) in his 13-year career; all spent with the Rangers. He is third all-time for goals only behind Jean Ratelle and Rod Gilbert, is tied for first all-time in power play goals, and his 326 goals ranks 24th all-time for Americans.
Terrance on the other hand is a 20-year old center hailing from Akwesasne, NY; only a brisk six-hour jaunt up I-87 from Madison Square Garden.
He was drafted 59th overall in 2023, and has spent the last four seasons with the Erie Otters of the OHL. In 230 games, Terrance registered 162 points (89G, 73A) but was an unsightly minus-49 in that span.
It may not seem the kind of deal Rangers fans were hoping for, especially losing a franchise icon like Kreider, but we already saw GM Chris Drury willing to ship long-time faces out of town, and he's doing it without mortgaging his future.
