Rees who had been playing in the AHL with the Charlotte Checkers and the Springfield Thunderbirds had struggled to find his offensive game. Rees a former second round pick in 2019 will likely head to Ottawa's AHL team in Belleville for the rest of the season. The Hurricanes get a 6th round pick for a player who had fallen out of favor in their system.
