At the trade deadline, the Toronto Maple Leafs welcomed back a familiar face by acquiring the big, rugged defenseman, Luke Schenn, from the Vancouver Canucks.
Schenn Left A Lasting Impression On Leafs Management
Schenn had previously made a lasting impression on Leafs Management during his tenure.
As a pending unrestricted free agent this summer, Schenn disclosed that he was in the midst of contract negotiations with former GM Kyle Dubas before his departure.
However, with the appointment of the new GM, Brad Treliving, Schenn remains uncertain about his standing.
Schenn Looking To Plant Roots Somewhere
During a recent interview on the "Leafs Morning Take" with Nick Alberga and co-host Jay Rosehill, Schenn expressed his desire to sign a deal that extends beyond just a year.
He mentioned that he has moved 8 or 9 times over the past 5-6 seasons, which is less than ideal for his family. Schenn is seeking a stable environment for at least a couple of years.
"It's fine when it's just you and your wife at the start.. but when you start having multiple kids.. it gets a little bit much. You're just hauling everything... You can't travel light anymore. And then on top of that, we did it in the midst of having a newborn. It was crazy-hectic times and it would be nice to settle down somewhere for sure for a few years," Schenn stated, clarifying his wish for a longer-term deal.
Schenn Putting Family First
Given that Schenn, at 33, is the father to three young children and has a wife to consider, his desire for stability is understandable.
Moreover, Schenn's playing years are potentially nearing their end. If the Leafs could negotiate a good price for him, a 2-3 year deal doesn't seem like a bad move.
