Mitch Marner has decided to cancel his yearly summer charity event as he looks to leave town, not only leaving fans stunned, but participants left out of a very crucial life experience.

While he decides his future with his next club when it comes to free agency, there is no doubt that the impact Mitch Marner made on the Toronto community as a whole is a very positive and enriching one.
Through his Marner Assist Foundation, he tried to lay the groundwork to help kids receive the right tools, education and experiences to make sure they find themselves well prepared for whatever life brings them.

So it comes as a complete shock and a slap in the face of those fans, as Marner has decided to cancel his annual summer event in order to focus on his own personal goals framed as his inability to stick around past July 1.
The excerpt reads:
After thoughtful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's event, scheduled for July 10th and 11th.

The uncertainty around Mitch's summer schedule makes it challenging to plan responsibly. Out of respect for the time and commitment of our partners and supporters, we feel it's best to make this decision now.

While we are disappointed not to come together this year, the Foundation will continue to honour all its commitments to charitable partners.

Though it's completely feasible and understandable that Marner might not have the time, it's a tone-deaf reversal of commitment that will make him even more vilified than he already has become.

Mitch Marner quickly burning bridges in Toronto

With each passing day it seems we learn more and more that Marner may have been a bit two-faced at times when it comes to how much he loves the Leafs.
He wanted to win here sure, and he dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the cause. But at a time when he knew he was leaving, or at least contemplating it, he decided to decline every possible option for heading elsewhere, determined to be the won who leads them to glory.
Marner hasn't shown that he can pull through when it matters though, and knowing that he refused to work with the team to help them, refuses to help them now, and is cancelling a charity event makes his arguably the most vilified athlete in Toronto in a long time.
Fans are really not pleased either with Marner's actions, but can you blame them?
For all the goodwill and respect Marner earned over his tenure in Toronto, it seems he is quickly losing that with every decision.
Forget a jersey retirement, he's probably going to get a chorus of boos the first time he comes back, and it's certainly warranted now.
