A Blockbuster Trade is Looming Between the Blackhawks and the Rangers
It is inevitable that Patrick Kane is traded by the Chicago Blackhawks. The team that drafted the superstar first overall in 2007 is now going through a full rebuild, and Patrick Kane is a valuable trade chip.
One destination that has been discussed at length for the forward is the New York Rangers. This is for several reasons.
1. The Rangers have several young assets: they have two 1st Round Picks in 2023, and they have plenty of young players in or close to the NHL.
2. The Rangers have $7.1M Cap space (more than enough to absorb Kane at half retained).
3. Since New York is home to Kane's close friend Artemi Panarin, and it was his favourite team growing up, it is likely Kane would take an extension to stay in New York.
Charlie Roumeliotis of The Athletic gave insight on what a trade for Kane could look like for the Rangers:
Would the Rangers part ways with K'Andre Miller or Braden Schneider? Doubtful. What about Filip Chytil, Kaapo Kakko or Alexis Lafreniere? That's where the conversation would probably go next, and that's where it should go next. Multiple league scouts I spoke to weren't very high on Vitali Kravtsov, so I don't think he'd be a prospect the Blackhawks would get overly excited about. Whatever package sends Kane out of Chicago will be a big one, and all things are pointing towards that haul coming from New York.
