Russian ice hockey player Roman Zyryanov tragically passes away
18-year-old Russian hockey player Roman Zyryanov has sadly passed away after he was hit by a train in the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia.
The hockey community has come together to show their condolences to Zyryanov's family. The forward was just 18 years old.
R.I.P young Roman Zyryanov 🙏
Zyryanov played for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod's U18 team in the 2022-23 season where he recorded a goal and four points in just 2 games. He did not play at all in the 2021-22 season and played in 34 games at the U16 level in 2020-21, recording 6 goals and 13 points.
Zyryanov had one goal, four points through two games played in his last season with Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod U18 in 2022-23.
Zyryanov is the second Russian hockey player to pass away. 14-year-old Ivan Bazhenov also passed away earlier this year. Hopefully this trend does not continue and more young hockey players are not taken way before they should have been. Our thoughts are with Roman's family and friends in this difficult time.
