David Krejci Reveals Bruce Cassidy's Mistake that Cost the Bruins the Stanley Cup
David Krejci has spoken out on the Bruins' 2019 Cup loss and how he believes they could have had a better chance at winning it all.
Cassidy's Crucial Coaching Blunder
Back in 2019, the Boston Bruins made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals only to just fall short to the St. Louis Blues. While this was disappointing, many felt that the Bruins did all they could to win it all.
However, David Krejci feels that the Bruins' head coach, Bruce Cassidy, made one crucial error that cost the Bruins the cup.
"We had a great relationship off the ice, we had great conversations, but I regret one thing."
"I think he could have shuffled those three and helped me out a little bit. That and the team. We went to the finals in 2019, I had over 70 points in the season without playing with Pasta for an extended period of time. If Cassidy had seen it a little differently back then..." said Krejci, trailing off without finishing his sentence.
The ones Krejci was referring to shuffling around are the Bruins' big three: Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, and David Pastrnak. They played the majority of the 2019 campaign together and were considered the best line in hockey,
Cassidy's Coaching Success
While Krejci feels that Cassidy could have given them a better chance by pairing him and Pastrnak up, it does not distract from the fact that Cassidy is a phenomenal coach.
Cassidy has won two Stanley Cups, one with the Bruins in 2011 and one with the Golden Knights in 2023 and is widely considered to be in the upper echelon of coaches in the NHL.
At the end of the day, Cassidy made a decision that he felt gave the Bruins the best chance at the cup and while it may have been the wrong choice, it was one Cassidy surely thought about for a long while.
As seen on Blade of Steel - Krejci Wonders if 2019 Cup Final Would have Ended Differently if Cassidy had Listened to Him
