Report: Bruins Engage Jets and Flames in Trade Talks to Replace Patrice Bergeron
The Boston Bruins were not shocked on Tuesday when iconic captain Patrice Bergeron announced his retirement, but with a talented team still remaining, they'll be looking to find a big time replacement.
Two potentially elite options
While the Bruins don't have the pieces to put together a package for a top tier player, they could be looking at a solid 1 or 2 centre to find his replacement, with Mark Scheifele and Elias Lindholm both considered big time options.
Both men have been considered trade candidates for many teams around the league this off-season, but after Boston moved on from some other contracts this off-season, they're now in a place where they can find a solid replacement.
Who is the better fit?
While Scheifele could be a great choice, according to Winnipeg Jets insider Scott Billeck, the Bruins are reportedly waiting to see what happens in Calgary, with the Flames awaiting a decision on Lindholm whom they have offered a long-term deal.
Both Canadian teams have big decisions to make, and if they do decide to move on from their top centre's, Boston would be a great fit, so keep an eye on the Bruins as training camp nears for every NHL team.
