Rumour: Top Bruins Forward Linked to the Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames had a very disappointing 2022-23 season, and they need to get creative to improve their team. They appear to have found a target.
Flames in on DeBrusk
Per NHL Trade Rumours, Boston Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk may be a possibility for the Flames.
DeBrusk, who has emerged as a solid top-six player over the past few seasons, has one year left on his deal with an annual average value of $4-million.
An Alberta native, it isn't hard to believe he would sign long-term in Calgary -- something that is very valuable for the Flames.
Perfect Trade Partners?
The proposed trade by NHL Trade Rumours is as follows:
To Calgary: Jake Debrusk
To Boston: Mikael Backlund (25% retention) + 3rd round draft pick in 2024
With Backlund being 34, that is where the Boston Bruins get the 3rd round pick.
DeBrusk, a productive 26-year-old player for the Bruins, cannot fill the center position that the team needs to address before the season begins. With limited options in the trade and free-agent market, Calgary Flames center Mikael Backlund may be the most suitable choice for the B's. It is very true that the Bruins need a centre, and Backlund plays a two-way game that has proven very effective in Boston. Could these two teams be a trade match made in heaven?
