Jake DeBrusk may no longer be a Boston Bruin, but now he's opened up on just how intimidated he was by former teammate Zdeno Chara.
After spending his entire career with the Boston Bruins, Alberta native Jake DeBrusk is off to Vancouver after signing in free agency, but he's now given one final interview in Boston.
During the interview, many topics were breached, but the one that was most interesting was DeBrusk revealing which former Bruins teammate intimidated him the most, and the answer won't surprise you.
«Super calm demeanor. Like such a nice guy and I love Z, but at the beginning, you're intimidated. You are straight up intimidated seeing Z for the first time,» DeBrusk recalled when he appeared on «The Cam & Strick Podcast» on Tuesday.
«I remember the first time I saw him on the ice; it was even more intimidating. We had a one-on-one drill, and I was like, Oh my God, I don't even know how to attack this guy right now.' It's like I never seen anything like (him) at the time, but you get used to it as time goes on.»
Standing at 6-foot-9, Zdeno Chara's role in the NHL was to intimidate and physically overpower opponents, and for a rookie coming in to camp with such a legendary teammate, it's easy to see why he was intimidated.
Throughout his on ice career, Chara dominated opponents physically, giving him one of the best highlight reels of this past generation.
Now, DeBrusk is off to Vancouver where he will likely never have a teammate like Chara, and while the talented forward did acknowledge that he got past the intimidation fairly quickly, that's a major sign of respect to the person and the player that Chara was in the NHL.
