Carolina Hurricanes sign Rod Brind'Amour to multi-year extension
NHL insider Kevin Weekes dropped some massive news this evening, announcing that the Carolina Hurricanes have signed head coach Rod Brind'Amour to a multi-year contract extension.
The Hurricanes were eliminated earlier this week when they lost their series to the New York Rangers in six games. There were immediate questions about Rod Brind'Amour's future with the team as he was on an expiring contract. Some thought the team might move on as they haven't really found the level of playoff success they were hoping for, but clearly they do not blame Brind'Amour for that.

The Hurricanes have consistently been one of the best teams in the league under Brind'Amour's watch. Since 2019, the team has made the playoffs every year, winning at least one round every time. They advanced to the Eastern Conference finals twice under Brind'Amour so far, in 2019 and 2023. Notably, the rest of Brind'Amour's staff appears to be signing extensions at the same time.

Hopefully the Hurricanes will be able to get over the last hump and win a Stanley Cup with their current core. Otherwise, the comparisons to the 2010's Sharks will continue to grow as they find consistent playoff success, but without a Cup to show for it.
