The restricted free agent Martin Necas signed a contract with the Carolina Hurricanes.

In breaking news, it was announced that Necas and the Canes agreed on a 2 year deal valued at $6.5M AAV.

Read the official press release, which includes a quote from general manager Erik Tulsky, here:

"RALEIGH, N.C. Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has agreed to terms with forward Martin Necas on a two-year, $13 million contract extension. Necas will receive an average-annual value (AAV) of $6.5 million through 2025-26.

«Martin is an immensely skilled player who provides a scoring threat whenever the puck is on his stick,» said Tulsky. «He will play a key role in the continued success of our franchise, and we're excited to have a multi-year contract done.»"

Over the past months, rumours sending Necas out of Carolina have been flowing everywhere. This is a big win for the Canes, who secured Necas' services for two more years at a reasonable rate.

Necas could also become an interesting trade asset for the Hurricanes. If they believe he'll ask for a higher salary in two years, the Canes' management will surely explore all scenarios.

Last season, the 25 year old forward scored 53 points, including 24 goals in 77 regular season games. In the playoffs, he tallied four goals and five assists in 11 games.

More to come.
