Capitals Alex Ovechkin suffers injury during game on home soil
Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals was playing a game in Russia where he suffered a gruesome knee injury and had to be removed.
There was an all-star game over in Russia between the best Russian players of the NHL versus those of the KHL, which was dubbed Sergei Mozyakin's farewell match. Unfortunately for Ovechkin, he suffered a knee injury and had to be removed from the game.
The knee injury doesn't appear to be significant enough where Ovechkin is at risk for the next NHL season, but it seems he won't be able to do anything for the next seven to 10 days. Fans, coaches and players were definitely concerned though.
Alex Ovechkin misses Sergei Mozyakin's farewell game due to minor knee injury
"This injury is not too serious and did not prevent Ovechkin from playing in the Game of the Year a week ago," said a source from Match TV.
"But now Alexander has decided to take care of himself so that he can begin full training in 10 days."
All things considered, 10 days isn't too bad and at least Capitals fans can breathe easy knowing he will definitely be okay by September's training camp.
The Great 8 finished last season with 31 goals and 34 assists in 79 games for the Washington Capitals. He is only 42 goals away from breaking Wayne Gretzky's all-time NHL goal record.
