Last June, the Blackhawks made a move that puzzled many. They traded for Taylor Hall and also acquired the UFA rights to Nick Foligno which many were confused by because the Blackhawks are currently rebuilding and Hall and Foligno are win now pieces.
This was originally thought to be the Blackhawks capitalizing on the Bruins lack of cap space but it appears to be much more than that.
Recently, the Blackhawks made a post to social media which seems to give the real reason the Blackhawks acquired Hall.
Now the true reason why the Blackhawks have acquired Taylor Hall is known. To be a mentor to Connor Bedard. Hall has filled the role of mentor pretty well. Since being drafted in 2010, Hall has played with six 1st overall picks younger than him (Nugent-Hopkins, Yakupov, McDavid, Hischier, Hughes, Dahlin) and Bedard will be the 7th.
While Hall is no longer the MVP caliber player he once was, he knows how to mentor young players in the spotlight unlike any other NHLer and Hall's advice will be some that Bedard takes for years to come.
