Trade Talks Heating Up Between the Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks
The Toronto Maple Leafs are not done adding. The Chicago Blackhawks are not done selling. It appears this match made in heaven is moving forward.
While the Patrick Kane talks have moved very firmly to the New York Rangers, the market for Jake McCabe is wide open.
McCabe Talks to Toronto Heating Up
McCabe is under contract long-term at a very reasonable $4-million cap-hit. Even better, the Blackhawks are reportedly willing to retain salary for a bigger package.
A servicable second-pairing defenseman for $2-million annually is a commodity for every team, but especially for the cap-strapped Maple Leafs.
Talks are heating up between the two teams, and rightfully so. I'm not sure if there's any fit better for Toronto than Jake McCabe.
He won't come cheap, but he will still cost much less than a guy like Jakob Chychrun. This could be the perfect move for Kyle Dubas to make.
The only question is - can he pull it off?
