Detroit Red Wings close to re-signing Patrick Kane to one-year deal
NHL insider Pierre LeBrun is reporting that the Detroit Red Wings are closing in on a contract extension for UFA forward Patrick Kane.
Kane was expected to hit the free market along with the rest of the free agent class tomorrow afternoon. However, it appears as though Steve Yzerman has burned the midnight oil to make a last-moment effort to keep showtime in hockey town.
By all indications, it appears as though that effort will not be in vain, as it is being reported that the two sides are very close to an agreement.

One interesting side note from this is the fact that the Montreal Canadiens were reportedly about to make a big push for Kane tomorrow. This information came from Frank Seravalli, sparking rumors about the American winger going to Quebec.
Frank Seravalli reported this just earlier today, so it seems that Habs fans have has their hopes crushed just hours after some good news.
