The NHL announced this afternoon that Edmonton Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse has been suspended by the league. This announcement comes after an incident in the final minutes of game four, where Nurse was engaged with Vegas' Nic Hague.
Nurse Suspended, Woodcroft Fined
This suspension is quite peculiar, as Darnell Nurse didn't even get a hearing for his actions. Instead, he was automatically suspended under the NHL's Instigating in Final Five Minutes of Regulation rule. Oilers Coach Jay Woodcroft was also fined $10,000 under this exact same rule.
It's clear the league isn't joking around with these suspensions anymore, and they're trying to set a clear precedent with these punishments.
Oilers fans will have to wait until Game 6 to see Nurse again.
