Hyman, who spent six seasons with the Maple Leafs between 2015-21, was asked about leaving in Toronto in 2021 in free agency, to which Hyman gave a bit of a strong answer in response.
Hyman was not re-signed to Toronto with a difficult cap situation that made signing Hyman to a long-term, big money contract an option that could not become feasible with the price sought. Hyman ended up in free agency, signing a seven-year, $38.5m contract with the Edmonton Oilers in free agency, going from being a linemate of Auston Matthews to Connor McDavid.
Since leaving Toronto, Hyman has become of the league's top point producers, with 54 goals and 77 points in 80 games played for the Oilers this season, with 14 goals and 18 points in 18 playoff appearances. Hyman has 117 goals and 214 points in 235 games in three seasons as a member of the Oilers.
Hyman and the Edmonton Oilers seek the team's first Stanley Cup since 1990 against the Florida Panthers, looking for their first ever cup win.
