LA Kings 2019 first-round pick Tobias Bjornfot went hard into the boards and the stretcher was needed to get him off the ice.

Bjornfot Goes Hard Into The Boards: Gets Stretchered Off

Last night in a game between the Ontario Reign and the Coachella Valley Firebirds, the Kings and Kraken's AHL affiliates respectively, Kings prospect Tobias Bjornfot took a hard hit from Kraken prospect Jacob Melanson.

Bjornfot needed a stretcher to get off of the ice after this hit. The Ontario Reign did get a five-minute power play after Melanson was assessed a major penalty.

Firebird forward Jacob Melanson was assessed a five-minute major and a game misconduct for boarding.

Melanson was a fifth-round pick in the 2021 draft and is currently in his first professional season. Bjornfot was the 22nd overall pick in the 2019 draft and has 117 career NHL games.

Bjornfot's Promising NHL Career

At 22 years old, Bjornfot has already gotten over a full season's worth of games. Bjornfot has scored one goal and gotten 14 additional assists for a total of 15 career points.

While he has spent the majority of the past two seasons in the AHL, he has a tough Kings lineup to crack and it gives him more time to develop in the minors. He has all of the tools to become a top-four NHL defenseman and now it is on Bjornfot to put it all together after recovering from this injury.
