The Ottawa Senators will be without Ridly Greig for the remainder of their preseason game vs. Toronto and the culprit may be finding themselves suspended.

During the Ottawa Senators second preseason game vs. Toronto, forward Ridly Greig was trying to escape his own zone when he got tripped up in a pretty nasty way by Maple Leafs' Pontus Holmberg. Greig was slow to get up and from the video evidence it seems he may have smacked his head hard on the ice.

It was definitely not a clean takedown by Holmberg who may find himself possibly on the end of a suspension from the incident. It wasn't accidental and clearly Toronto has harbored some type of grudge against Greig due to the fact that he's already been the victim of another nasty hit courtesy of Morgan Rielly:

Greig is one of the brighter spots for a Senators team who is trying to breakout and find their footing in the ever difficult Atlantic Division. He had a very solid campaign last season for Ottawa with stereo goals and assists having 13 apiece and was definitely going to find himself playing top minutes at times for the Senators.

The 28th overall pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft had a very successful junior career with 76 goals and 115 assists in 183 games for the Brandon Wheat Kings and would have found himself anchoring the third line alongside veteran newcomers Nick Cousins and David Perron.

That tandem would have allowed Greig to use his offensive talent much more efficiently as Cousins; the notorious character he is, would afford him more space and Perron is as efficient a power forward as you can ask for from a 19-year veteran.

The hit on Greig is not one that should be taken lightly, as clearly it was a dirty play. As much as Toronto fans may not like it Holmberg needs to find some repercussions for his actions. If he isn't, then it should lay on the shoulders of head coach Craig Berube to enact some type of punishment, whether it's a benching or an extra bag skate. All you can hope for is that Greig's injury isn't serious and his removal is just a precaution.

The Toronto Maple Leafs' Pontus Holmberg made a dirty move and Ridly Greig paid that price, now it's time for Holmberg to get his comeuppance.
