In a bizarre event during the Flyers/Bruins game, Philadelphia goaltender Samuel Ersson pulled himself in the first period due to an unknown injury he suffered.

The Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins game started with no issues, everything seemed to be going to plan for both teams as they tried to break out of their current slumps. Both teams need to pick things up for the sake of their head coaches, who are in danger of losing their jobs if they keep failing.

But roughly 7 minutes into the game, a bizarre incident occurred. Philadelphia goaltender Samuel Ersson ended up losing his skate blade, then about a minute later ended up calling over a trainer to have a chat. Shortly after, Ersson left the game and did not return, stunning the Flyers and everyone in attendance as nothing looked out of the ordinary:

It's an unfortunate injury as he was one of the bright spots in an otherwise murky Flyers season. Finally starting to come into his own, Ersson was primed to keep the #1 spot in Philly before this injury stopped that, and hopefully won't derail what was a promising season even if the Flyers are struggling. Ersson is 4-2-1 this season with a 2.72 GAA and .897 SV% and was a 5th-round pick of the Flyers in 2018.

Flyers head coach John Tortorella gave an update regarding his young goaltender about the extent of the injury though he couldn't give a timeline for his return:

"Lower body injury," confirmed Tortorella during his post-game media availability.

"Not sure, I haven't talked to the medical guys," said Tortorella when asked for a timeline.

NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman also provided an update regarding Ersson, and reports that it is speculated he avoided something serious but is still going to miss a bit of time:

For now, the Flyers will need to rely on Aleksei Kolosov, and Ivan Fedotov, or perhaps call up Cal Petersen as temporary replacements until Ersson returns. The goaltending for the Flyers has been a sore spot this season, and if the Flyers don't want to throw in the towel, they might need to look elsewhere for more stable insurance between the pipes.

It was a bizarre incident that looked fairly innocent but turned out to be a bad situation for the Flyers. They lucked out that Ersson isn't seriously injured, however, it's another blemish on their already rocky season.
