Flyers Head Coach John Tortorella Caught in Unacceptable Viral Video
John Tortorella has always stood on the line of controversies in the NHL. Opinions about him are mixed, but no one can deny the great work he accomplished in Philadelphia. He completely turned the team around and led them straight into the playoff race. The Flyers, currently 3rd in the Metropolitan Division, could very well be the biggest surprise of the season and make it to the playoffs.
However, a new video of the coach emerged online, where we can see Tortorella having a major emotional reaction on the bench during a game.
Philadelphia Flyers Head Coach John Tortorella Lashes Out at a Player During Game
Last night, the Flyers lost a crucial game against their division rivals, the Washington Capitals, who are currently four points behind the Flyers, with two games in hand.
Towards the end of the second period, John Carlson scored the go-ahead goal after a major mistake by Flyers' Bobby Brink:
John Tortorella lashed out at Brink as he returned to the bench.
Watch the video here:
Brink was limited to 9:56 on the ice, as Tortorella decided to bench him after that moment.
In the coach's post-game press conference, a reporter asked Tortorella if he had considered putting Brink on the ice for the last few minutes of the game to give him experience in crucial moments.
He simply said:
"Not with the stupidity prior, no. [Brink] and Lycksell, not with the stupidity, they wouldn't see any ice."
Tortorella cares about his players and while he might have been a bit hard on him, we can't deny his passion.
"It's known that Tortorella likes Brink. He holds Brink & the team to a standard. It's not Tortorella attacking Brink it's a coach who CARES."
