The Philadelphia Flyers haven't had the best luck with goaltending in recent years, and now, their worst nightmares about a top prospect may be coming true.
After five solid seasons with Dynamo Minsk in the KHL, former third-round draft pick Alexei Kolosov made his way to North America last season, eventually finding his way with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL.
Now, his story has another twist, as it has been reported that Kolosov is attempting to work with his former KHL team to get out of his NHL contract and return to Europe.
Alexei Kolosov asked Dinamo-Minsk to solve the issue with the termination of his contract in the NHL.
This is yet another difficulty the Flyers are having to deal with, but according to a conflicting report, the team don't believe this will happen, and expect him to see out his NHL contract with the team despite the homesickness.
I'm hearing Flyers are not aware of anything regarding Alexei Kolosov going back to KHL. The belief is he was homesick and the hope is he'll be OK.
Kolosov, 22, is under contract and played in KHL on loan this season. He joined Phantoms in April.
It's unclear whether that is the sole issue with Kolosov or if something else is going on, but at this point in time, he remains contracted to the Flyers, and at just 22-years of age with a bright future, it's easy to see why the team want to keep him. With other talented young players like Jamie Drysdale and Matvei Michkov looking to make an impact in the NHL soon, it makes sense that the team wants a young goaltender to grow with this team, so we will wait and see how this story develops over the summer.
