Following the Leafs' important decision to replace Sheldon Keefe by Craig Berube behind the bench, other debates were raised about additional changes that should be made to make the team better by the start of the season.
A new report suggested two moves that Brad Treliving and the Leafs' management could do in order to achieve their goal.
First, Mitch Marner must be dealt with. According to the same report, the only way this situation will be resolved is by offering him an extension.
Despite his struggles in the playoffs and the harsh way he was treated by the media in Toronto, Marner is an exceptional player that can provide a lot to the team.
The other move concerns Nick Robertson. It was suggested that the Leafs should offer him a role in the top six, alongside Marner, Tavares, Nylander or Matthews. With Berube coming in with no preconceived notions about the player, he could finally have his beakout season.
An extension wouldn't have to be long. A one-year deal would be enough to see if Robertson can take his game to the next level with his new coach.
To sum up, Marner and Robertson could be on their way to have incredible seasons. Brad Treliving must be careful to not lose the two players for nothing on free agency, as they could play an important role for the Leafs next season.
