The Penguins GM search is starting to be narrowed down.
Four big names that were interviewed as Ron Hextall's replacement as the Penguins' GM have been informed they are no longer being considered for the position.
Eric Tulsky
Of the four, Tulsky is who most Penguins fans wanted to see in the GM seat. Tulsky currently serves as assistant GM for the Carolina Hurricanes, who are currently down 3-0 in their playoff series against the Florida Panthers. Tulsky was named the assistant GM in November 2020.
Dan MacKinnon
MacKinnon has been a veteran in the Penguins organization. He started as a scout for the team in 2006 before being named Director of Professional Scouting in 2007. MacKinnon then served as Director of Player Personnel for Pittsburgh before heading to the New Jersey Devils to serve the same role. He currently holds three roles in the NHL, serving as assistant GM and Senior VP of Hockey Operations for the New Jersey Devils, as well as General Manager for the Utica Comets.
Marc Bergevin
Former Penguin Marc Bergevin previously served as a scout and assistant coach for the Chicago Blackhawks, having won the 2010 Stanley Cup with the team. He also served as assistant GM for Chicago before being named general manager of the Montreal Canadiens shortly after. Bergevin currently serves as the LA Kings' senior advisor to the general manager.
Peter Chiarelli
Chiarelli previously spent time as the GM for the Boston Bruins. He was fired by the Bruins in 2015 after the Bruins missed the playoffs for the first time in eight years. He headed to the Oilers, making several moves, including the selection of Connor McDavid 1st overall in the 2015 Draft. He also traded Taylor Hall during his time in Edmonton. Chiarelli currently served as Vice President of Hockey Operations for the St. Louis Blues.
