Despite their ageing roster, it appears the Pittsburgh Penguins front office is preparing for yet another Stanley Cup win with their veteran roster, and now, they've received some good news on one of their biggest stars.
An early season return
According to a recent report, Jake Guentzel, who has been dealing with plenty of injuries throughout his career will return to the ice around five games into the 2023-24 regular season.
#Pens Jake Guentzel (ankle) is expected to return around five games into the season.
This is a major positive for the Penguins, for whom some believed Guentzel would miss significant time, and with Malkin, Crosby, Letang and Karlsson around him, this could be a fantastic team in 2023-24.
Stanley Cup bound?
Despite this talented, experienced roster, the Penguins are still playing in the stacked Eastern Conference, as they'll have to beat out Florida, New York, New Jersey, Toronto, Tampa Bay, Boston, Carolina, Buffalo and others for a playoff spot.
Over the past two years, No. 59 has put together 84 and 73 points, and if he can be the offence's third or fourth best player, it will show off Pittsburgh's fantastic depth, and if he's healthy, we could be in for a career year.
Still, the addition and health of Guentzel will be a major positive for this team, as he is expected to play on a line with Sidney Crosby and Rickard Rakell, and with the added depth, this will be a team that's tough to play night in, night out.
