One candidate who could replace Ron Hextall as the Penguins GM is Jason Botterill.
Botterill is already familiar with the organization, as he held many roles in the Penguins management. In 2007, he was hired as Director of hockey administration before being promoted to assistant GM in 2009. He would later serve as interim GM shortly before Jim Rutherford was hired.
Botterill served as the Buffalo Sabres' GM from 2017-2020 before making his way to the Seattle Kraken to fulfill his current role as assistant GM.
The former Dallas Stars player was named one of ice hockey's "100 Most Powerful People" in 2011. Botterill was selected 20th overall by the Dallas Stars in 1994. He also played for the Atlanta Thrashers, Buffalo Sabres and Calgary Flames. He served most of his time in the AHL with the Rochester Americans and Saint John Flames before suffering a career-ending concussion in 2004.
Mixed reactions from Penguins fans have surfaced, as some are totally for hiring Botterill.
Some, however, would not be too thrilled to see Botterill as the next Pens GM, and even went as far to suggest another name that is being considered for the position: Eric Tulsky.
Tulsky currently sits as assistant GM for the Carolina Hurricanes.
