Sidney Crosby is entering the final year of his current contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. As a result, Kyle Dubas and the Penguins have been working toward an extension for their captain. A report on July 1st from David Pagnotta confirmed the two sides had begun negotiations.
This was music to the ears of Pittsburgh Penguins fans. Sidney Crosby has been the backbone of their franchise for over 2 decades now. However, a new report has come out that has thrown all of the original hope out of the window for the time being on a Sidney Crosby extension.
This afternoon Pittsburgh journalist Dan Kingerski decided to touch on the Sidney Crosby extension. He revealed that his sources have said no progress has been made toward an extension between Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The fact that talks have not progressed much at the moment is understandable we are still early into the offseason. However, last offseason the Tampa Bay Lightning made similar claims with their captain Steven Stamkos. An extension never was agreed to and now Steven Stamkos left for the Nashville Predators.
While the Pittsburgh Penguins are not currently close to this outcome Kyle Dubas and the front office does need to be careful in these negotiations. To this point the Penguins have continued to reload the roster under the premise of having Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin if they leave then the plan goes up in smoke.
As the offseason continues this situation will continue to develop every day. Once more major pieces of information are revealed we will pass them along to you.
